About me

My Name is Joanne Pick, and I’d like to welcome you to my blog,

Australian Walkabout – Caravanning Camping Touring.

Perhaps all you need to know about me is that I love photography, I see a lot of the world through a lens. I love writing, I tend to waffle on a bit, and I love Australia. So, in planning our travels around this great land it seemed natural that I combine my passions and develop this blog.

I was born in England and emigrated here when I was about twenty-two. I only mention this because it intrigues me how much I really do love this country. It’s worlds apart from where I grew up. Lifestyle, space, distance, wildlife and culture. It was all alien to me though it didn’t take me long to adapt to the Australian way of life.

And you know what? Even after thirty-five years I still get those, “OMG. I’m in Australia!” moments like I just arrived yesterday.

I have friends and family overseas and this is my way of showcasing Australia to them. It’s also aimed at my fellow Australians in the hope that I can encourage them to look to their own backyard when planning their next holiday. This many faceted country of ours has so much to offer, if you only take the time to look.

More importantly, I hope to keep a full account of my travels with Peter, because as many of you know…my memory sucks.

I hope to share our travel destinations and experiences. The good, the bad and the funny. And I would love to hear from you as well. So, feel free to share your stories and experiences with us all.

Well, that’s just a little bit about me. If you want to know more, ask. Or simply follow my blog. I’m sure you will get to know me better as Peter and I continue to explore and write about our travels.

This is my blog; I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Wow Joanne, 35 years, absolutely amazing, I feel as you do though, I’ve always loves the country even though I don’t live there, obviously I love kangaroos and Koalas, ànd even though I visited there in 2019, we had an amazing trip whilst over there and it was always my dream, but I still find it hard to believe we were there, and I left part of my heart over there. I hope I get back one day to be able to do more road trips and see other parts of Australia which we didn’t get to see. Have a wonderful trip and stay safe xx

    • Thanks Jacqui we will be safe. I hope you do get a chance to come back again too. Hopefully we can catch up next time.
Hope you enjoy the blog, don’t forget to follow me, that way you won’t miss a post.
      Take care over there
      Jo

  2. Hi Joanne, I’ve been in Oz since 1964, when I arrived for a ‘one year working holiday’! I am the same: always amazed and grateful to live in this country! And to have had the privilege to see very much of it! Thank you for sharing your adventures and wonderful pix!

    • Thank you Pat I’m pleased you’re enjoying our travels. It seems we have a lot in common, we’ll have to stay in touch.
      🙂
